In the mid
1980's two brothers started the day racing motorcycles. While
taking a
break within view of a drag strip, their attention shifted from bikes
to cars when they saw a Super Gas Camaro leave the line with the front
wheels up in the air. That wheel stand inspired the beginning of
what would become RLC Performance Engineering.
We built a 1988 Pontiac Firebird formula street driven racer, designing
the car to appear completely stock. It was driven on the streets,
while running a best of time - 8.86 @ 158 mph with a 1.19, 60 ft
on a
1/4
mile drag strip. The car was driven to the Utah Salt Flats and
did a
two way average of 255 mph putting RLC on the map. By the end of
the 80's we had been featured in several magazines,
regularly contributed tech information, and did installations for many
tech
articles.

In 1993 we got the call from Mike Thermos
at NOS asking if we would set up one of their new Nitrous Oxide
System on
Rod Sabourys 1957 Vette. We accepted the challenge and set a new
world
record as the first street driven race car to
hit in the 7 second zone, setting a quarter mile street vehicle record
of 7.92 @ 170 mph, in
English Town, NJ.
We have since modified and built dozens of vehicles
that have been raced
locally and internationally. By 1999 we had our own IHRA Pro mod
car,
and were
members of the the North East
Promod Shoot Association.
We're not just about drag racing either! We have built and raced
a
mud bogger called "Personal Problems" in the East Coast Budweiser 4x4
Mud Hop Series - placing 2nd in the point standings, and in 2001
we won the world championships for the East Coast Boat Racing
Associations Modified Division, while setting speed lap records that
remain unbroken, even 4 years later.
In the last few years we have branched out and have been working with
everything from Boat Racing to Monster trucks. Our newer ventures
include radio
controlled vehicles,
structural engineering equipment, and cosmetic dress up parts forcustom
car and motorcycle builders. We are now
offering our
engineering
and
production services to the general public, providing performance
engineering, custom parts fabrication, and manufacturing services,
helping other power sport enthusiasts turn their ideas and designs into
production quality performance parts.
